Ella Malone Joins Tommies Women's Soccer Program
Fredericton, NB - Tommies women's soccer program is thrilled to announce the addition of Ella Malone for the 2025 season. Ella joins STU from Gonzaga High School and the Feildians Athletic Association in Newfoundland and Labrador. She plays as a wingback and center midfielder.
Ella’s decision to join STU stems from her admiration for the university’s small class sizes, community-oriented atmosphere, and the warm reception she received from the women’s soccer coaching staff. “I have always wanted to play university soccer, and the opportunity to play with the Tommies seemed like the perfect fit,” Ella shared.
Head Coach David Itoafa expressed his excitement about the new recruit,"Ella embodies the grit, tenacity, and toughness that are essential to our program's success. Her versatility as a midfielder and wingback makes her a perfect fit for our team. We are thrilled to welcome her to the STU Soccer Family and can't wait to see her contribute to our program's future!"
Academically, Ella will pursue a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Psychology, with plans to continue her education in a Master’s program in Clinical Psychology.
In addition to her soccer prowess, Ella has an impressive background in athletics. She has represented the NLSA Provincial Team, competed as a figure skater at provincial, Atlantic, and national levels, and played on provincial teams for basketball and rugby. She is also a high school hockey player. Beyond competing, Ella enjoys coaching youth soccer at both the club and provincial levels, a role she finds fulfilling as she gives back to the soccer community.
Ella expressed her excitement about joining the Tommies, saying, “The women’s soccer program has a great vision for bringing their players to the next level. The coaching staff was very welcoming, supportive, and passionate about providing a positive experience for their athletes. I am looking forward to developing alongside my new teammates!”
