Tommies Bested 3-0 by Mystics

The St. Thomas University Tommies were bested by the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in ACAA women's volleyball action Saturday morning at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym. 

Set scores were 25-19, 25-22, and 25-14. 

The Mystics jumped to an early lead in the opening set, but the Tommies battled back and closed the gap to as little as two points. Some timely attacks and solid defence gave the Mystics the edge and allowed them to hold on and take a 1-0 lead in the match. 

It was back and forth in the second set. The Mystics came out with another early lead, but the Tommies chipped away and eventually tied the game. The teams traded points throughout set, but a late push from the Mystics gave them the three-point win. 

The Tommies fell behind in the third set and the Mystics took advantage, holding a comfortable lead before closing out the set and the game. 

Christina Day powered the Mystics with 10 points and five digs, while Jenn Leckey added five kills and two digs in the win. 

The Tommies offense was fueled by Deidra Jones, who had eight kills to go along with three digs. 

With the loss, the Tommies drop to 0-2 on the season and the Mystics improve to 2-0.
