Name: Ryley Horton
Hometown: Calgary, AB
Position: Left side/Right side
Height: 5’11”

On the heels of the announcement of Gabrielle Melanson joining the Tommies women’s volleyball program, head coach Don McKay is pleased to release the addition of Ryley Horton to the 2020-21 recruiting class.

The 5’11” Calgary, AB native, who has a standing reach of 7’11”, joins the Tommies after previously playing for the U17 Dinos club in Calgary. A former multisport athlete (ringuette and field hockey), Horton is excited to join her new teammates with the Tommies.

I choose STU because I felt as though the atmosphere suited me,” said Horton. “The University has a program that fits my academic goals, with small class sizes which is different from many universities, as well as a beautiful campus. As a volleyball player, the Tommies athletic program is one that is highly respected and one in which I see myself thriving in. I knew St Thomas was the fit for me.”

Along with the Dinos Horton also played club volleyball with the Canuck Volleyball Club and TSAVC, while also representing Alberta at the 2018 Canada Games for both indoor and beach volleyball.

“I have spoken to Ryley several times, and recently to her last coach, and Coach Dakin speaks highly of Ryley’s maturity at such a young age,” said McKay. “She says she is relaxed, easy to be around, has a good sense of humour and some natural leadership qualities. Coach Dakin says Ryley’s aggressive, flat, deep float serve is one of her best skills.
