The St. Thomas University Tommies women’s volleyball team is happy to announce the addition of Gabrielle Melanson for the 2020-21 season.

The 5’8” left side, who attended Ecole Saint-Anne, comes to the Tommies after strong high school and club careers. Along with the Castors, Melanson played with the 14U, 15U and 18U Reds clubs and the 18U Spartans, while representing Volleyball New Brunswick on the 15U and 16U teams, and Team Atlantic 18U team.

“Gabrielle was set to have a solid final year with the École Sainte-Anne senior girls team before the season was cancelled,” said club and high school coach, Natasha Dube. “Her ability to play multiple positions and great serve enabled us to have success over the past two school seasons. These will continue to be assets for her as she transitions to college volleyball.”

There were many factors that drew Melanson to the Tommies, including the coaching staff and closeness to home and the atmosphere of “The Pit”.

I am very excited to study and play volleyball at St. Thomas University,” said Melanson. “I’ve only heard great things about the coaching staff and the team and I’m looking forward to bringing my game to the next level. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to stay home and continue playing volleyball while pursuing my education. I’ve always admired the energy at the LB Gym during games and I can’t wait to be a part of it next year.”

Tommies head coach, Don McKay, is excited to have Melanson bring her skill set and work ethic to the team.

“We have watched and played exhibition matches against Gabrielle and her teams. She brings energy, enthusiasm and a good level of competitiveness to the court. She likes to compete and to have fun. She was a teammate of Danica Godin’s and having both of them on the same team brings a level of cohesiveness that only comes from playing together for several years. We believe Gaby will fit in well with our returning players and she will be a solid player for the Tommies for several years.”
