Reds Volleyball standout Abby Lanteigne joins Tommies

Tommies lands another Team NB Canada Games Training squad member with the addition of Abby Lanteigne of Fredericton.

The upcoming graduate of Leo Hayes High School, Abby played Left Side and was instrumental in helping her Varsity High School team win the 2021 Western Conference AAA Championship. Previously her team captured the Silver Medal at Provincials when she was in Grade 10.   Her family has been a staple of volleyball in the Capital region and in New Brunswick as her parents Steve and Vicky are founding members of the Executive of the Reds Volleyball club, which she developed her skills.

Staying at home and opting for St. Thomas University, Abby said “I chose STU because of the fantastic atmosphere it has created for their students to learn. I went on a tour of the University and immediately fell in love with the campus. Everyone I met at STU was kind and welcoming. They made me feel at home and already part of the school."

She's traveled around Canada for numerous volleyball events, such as Volleyball Canada Nationals, but  she felt comfortable staying  "With living in Fredericton my whole life, I’ve grown up watching the Tommies play. Now being able to join the team is a dream come true. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the team and the coaching staff. I’m super excited to be apart of the STU family and can’t wait to get started!”

Coach Don McKay likes her abilities to play strong defence, providing good first passes to her Setter. “ I believe Abby will be able to play where needed in practices and games - even as a Setter - making her a great asset. I know she will help solidify our passing."

Another bonus is Lanteigne will join her LHHS teammate, Sydney Doyle.  "It's a great fit for us," noting the previous connection of Hannah Millier and Megan Mills who landed with the Tommies after their high school career with the Lions.

Her volleyball pedigree certainly will help with the Tommies depth.  "She has tremendous potential and we are pleased she wanted to continue to add to her medals and positive experiences in our sport."

Abby joins three of her STU recruits - Sydney Doyle, Chloe Little and Julia Campbell - who were recently selected for the Canada Games 2022 Training Group for Indoor Volleyball, along with Megan Bowen and Madison Ball, the latter is transfering from UNB's track program.
