Lauren Moerike heads to STU to join Tommies Volleyball

Coach McKay is bringing more experience with the transfer announcement of PEI's Lauren Moerike joining the Green & Gold this Fall.

The Charlottetown native and outside hitter heads to St. Thomas to join the Tommies Women's Volleyball team looking to pursue her playing career as well as her studies in Social Work.

"I think that St. Thomas will position myself to get into a career working alongside law enforcement officers and assisting in training and implementation of mental health strategies." mentions Lauren.

She will bring ACAA experience after playing for the Holland Hurricanes for 2 seasons, as well as competing with the UPEI Panthers for another two seasons.  Although recovering from surgery in early 2021, she's a gamer.  "I'm back to running and training in anticipation of being on the court in mid-September".

The 2017 Canada Games Team PEI member is a welcome addition to a youthful group.

Tommies bench boss Don McKay says "with so many new players this coming year, it will be great to add someone with Lauren’s maturity. In all of our talks, she has expressed a 'team first' mentality," which is always a coveted asset for coaches.

Even at 5'7", Moerike is not afraid to take the floor in any position required by the coaching staff.  "She has a great attitude and will play wherever and whenever needed in any role - I look forward to having her join the Tommies."

Coach McKay has been busy retooling his program and is the 7th incoming athlete joining Abby Lanteigne, Sydney Doyle, Chloe Little, Julia Campbell, Megan Bowen and Madison Ball, the latter is transfering from UNB's track program.
