Local Black Kat Bowen to join Tommies Women's Volleyball

Tommies Associate Coach Carys Storey was able to channel a prospective recruit for Don McKay with the announcement that Megan Bowen will join the Green & Gold this Fall.

Bowen is a 5ft 7inch outside hitter who will graduate from Fredericton High school this June.  She has played for her school and STU WVB Associate Coach, Carys Storey, while splitting her time between 18U Spartans and the FHS Black Kats.

Megan chose St Thomas because she can stay at home, get a good education and play for the Tommies.

Continuing her volleyball career alongside Coach Storey was a no-brainer.  “I really look up to Carys as a strong female role model. She is one of the kindest persons who knows how to get the best out of people. I am at my best when I play for her”

Coach McKay concurs “Having such a close connection to one of our coaches already and being able to play more than one position fits well into my coaching philosophy."

Head Coach Don McKay said Coach Storey praised Megan’s abilities to him. “Carys loves her work ethic, hitting strength and the overall potential she sees in Megan."

After seeing Brown practice this year, McKay believes "she will be fun to work with as she seems to love defense and getting a good hit”

Coach McKay feels that Megan will be ready for the university student-athlete experience.  "She is another strong student-athlete and it should be a gentle transition for her to the ACAA Level as we will have several rookies on our team next year!”

Bowen is the third recruit announced by the Women's Volleyball coaching staff, joining Julia Campbell and Chloe Little in the recruiting class of 2021.
