Shannon Munro makes her way to St. Thomas to join the Volleyball Tommies

The St. Thomas Women's Volleyball team continues to reload by adding Saint John's Shannon Munro.

The 5'7" Setter who has also played Right Side will be heading to STU after achieving high academic marks while attending Harbour View High School.  She was awarded the Gold Medal of Academic Excellence in 2018 and the Silver Medal of Academic Excellence from 2019 to 2021.

That success will translate well at the University level.  In choosing St. Thomas, Shannon mentions "STU is definitely the best fit for me with its small campus and class size, warm atmosphere and great journalism program."

Munro also found success in her athletic endeavours. She was named the Harbour View Vikings MVP for volleyball while in Grade 10 and 12, along with the Senior Athlete of the Year at the school in 2021.

She played multiple sports outside of volleyball. Shannon was the MVP for her HVHS Softball team twice and also competed on the rowing team.

Getting multiple offers to play varsity sport ultimately fell on staying close to home and playing volleyball.  "My past coaches in the Wolfpack Volleyball Club have said great things about the STU Women's Volleyball program and the coaching staff.  I'm excited to continue growing and developing my skills as a player on this team," adds Shannon.

Coach Don McKay is also pleased to have Shannon commit to the Green & Gold.  Her experience in finding success at many levels across many sports will be an asset to the program, along with being strong academically.  "I love that combination and she brings a solid framework to our team," lauds the bench boss.

McKay continues: "She is strong and has no problem pushing the ball outside. She will fit in with our group of setters. We have a tremendous cast of recruits that want to do well from the start”.

Shannon is the 8th addition to the STU Women's Volleyball program, joining  Abby Lanteigne, Sydney Doyle, Chloe Little, Julia Campbell, Megan Bowen, Lauren Moerike and Madison Ball, the latter two is transfering from other programs.
