Coach Don McKay continues to retool his line-up with the addition of Fredericton's Sydney Doyle.

A 5'11 middle blocker who will graduate from the Leo Hayes Lions program this upcoming June has committed to the Green & Gold for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

Sydney played on Team NB and attended the Canada Cup 2019, and was selected to travel with the U18 Reds during her club career for tournaments and Nationals when she was U17.

Sydney will be focusing on Economics and Business courses with future plans of owning her own business. She indicated it was very appealing to her to have a blended learning opportunity at St. Thomas as well as competing in a very competitive ACAA Women’s Volleyball League.  

“I am excited to be staying home to be a part of the Tommies Nation," said Doyle  "I’ve heard nothing but great things about the coaching staff."

There will some familiarity with the new incoming class.  "I know the recruits coming and the team has a solid foundation of young players. I feel we can not only compete but win multiple championships at STU in the near future”

Her Reds Volleyball Club coach Steve Lanteigne mentions her greatest strength is her ability to block anyone. "I believe she currently ranks as one of the top 3 Middles in the province.”

That's music to Coach Don McKay's ears.  “I am absolutely thrilled to have Sydney join the Tommies next season. She will fit in nicely with our other recruits as they have competed with and against each other for a number of years."

"We are very excited that she has chosen to attend St Thomas University and I believe she will be a huge part of our volleyball program for many years."  Adding height to the front line to replace the upcoming graduations of Hannah Millier and Krysteena Clements will be vital to the Tommies

Sydney joins Megan Bowen, Julia Campbell and Chloe Little in the recruiting class of 2021 of the STU Women's Volleyball team.
