Tommies Extend Winning Streak to 10 in Sweep

Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas University Tommies overpowered the Dalhousie Agriculture Campus Rams in Saturday night volleyball action at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym. In the Tommies' clean sweep, set scores were 25-23, 25-10, 25-19.

Abby Lanteigne (Fredericton, NB) posted a game high in kills with nine and 11 points, while Kathleen Boyle (Fredericton, NB) continued her strong rookie season in the ACAA with seven kills and 10 points. Boyle also had 13 digs while Madison Ball (Truro, NS) had 12 digs. Julia Campbell (Sussex, NB) led the game in assists with 25.

On the Rams side, Callie Immerkar led the way with eight kills and 8.5 points. Catherine Wikie posted 19 assists and four digs, with Molly Marquis getting seven kills.

The two played an even set to kick off the match - going point for point after the Tommies got it going with the first three points. The Rams responded with a 9-3 run, only to be answered by a powerful spike from Boyle and consecutive service aces from Lanteigne enroute to seven unanswered points, forcing the Rams to call timeout and regroup.

The two went the distance, as the Rams tied the Tommies at 23 in the set before a Dal AC error and kill from Campbell ended the set to give the Tommies a 1-0 lead.

Their momentum carried into the next set - cruising to a 25-10 set win, setting the Tommies up for a sweep.

The Rams stayed with the Tommies, having a 10-9 lead until a kill from Maddie MacGregor (Truro, NS) shifted the momentum back to STU. An 8-1 run by the Tommies would put the Rams out of reach, as STU closed it out with a 25-19 set win to complete the sweep and putting their winning streak to 10 games.

The Tommies are now 12-3, first in the ACAA. They'll be back in the Lady Beaverbrook Gym Sunday, taking on the Crandall University Chargers at 2:00 PM.

The Rams are now 4-10, seventh in the ACAA. They'll host the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in their next match on Feb. 10. Start time is scheduled for 10:00 PM.
