Tommies Welcome Tilly Sprague Hay to Women's Volleyball Program
Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University Women’s Volleyball program is excited to announce the addition of Tilly Sprague to the Tommies roster. Hailing from Grand Bay – Westfield, NB, Sprague brings a competitive mindset as she prepares to join the team as a middle.
Sprague developed her volleyball skills through Harbour View High School, Rothesay High School, and the U18 Timberwolves. Despite only starting to play volleyball competitively at 16, her rapid development and dedication to the sport have led her to the university level.
“I hope to bring a competitive mindset, coachability, and a drive to win,” said Sprague. “I enjoy pushing myself and my teammates to improve and work hard in both practices and games. I believe my energy and determination can help the team and bring out the best in everyone so we can succeed together. I can’t wait to continue my journey with my new teammates!”
St. Thomas University’s welcoming and close-knit environment played a key role in Sprague’s decision to join the Tommies.
“One of the main reasons I chose STU is the close-knit community it offers. Everyone I spoke with at the university made me feel welcomed. The smaller class sizes allow for more personalized attention and better opportunities for academic support,” she said. “Another key factor is location. Since the university is close to my hometown, I can stay connected with family and friends while also enjoying the independence of university life.”
While she is still exploring her academic interests, Sprague looks forward to discovering new fields and challenging herself in the classroom.
Outside of volleyball, Sprague has an extensive athletic background. She played field hockey throughout high school and was a defenseman for the U18 AAA Fundy Kraken for two seasons. Additionally, she has been downhill skiing for years and has worked as a ski instructor.
She is also eager to work with Tommies head coach Kim and her staff, who she believes will help her grow as an athlete.
“I am excited for the opportunity to work with Coach Kim and her staff, who are highly respected in the volleyball community. In my limited experience with them, they have already helped me improve through their clear communication and attentive coaching.”
"Tilly is an outgoing athlete who brings a positive attitude, energy, and desire to learn. Her athletic experiences in a variety of sports and most recently volleyball give her a strong understanding of what it takes to succeed. Tilly’s athleticism is obvious on the court, she's driven to contribute and compete - we’re excited to have her at here at STU" - Head Coach Kim Colpitts
The Tommies are thrilled to welcome Tilly Sprague Hay to the program and look forward to seeing her make an impact on and off the court.
